We stayed in Sky Valley, GA which is right on the border of NC. The closest town was Highlands, NC. The area is mostly a golf community but we got the condo for free from Brad's family so we couldn't pass it up!

Brad and I are leaving Saturday morning to spend a week in the mountains of NC and hitting up Asheville for 2 days on the way back. Our first real vacation with Leah so it should be interesting to see how she does on the 8+ hour drive!

As far as our yard, Brad only bags the grass when it is really long and we compost the clippings with our leaves from the fall. We're making larger compost bins this year so I can start composting food too. We borrow my Dad's electric edger and it works great and we have a cordless weedwacker which is nice but takes 2 batteries to do our entire yard. We're sucking it up this year and getting an Organic Lawn Service because of Leah..she likes to eat grass so we're trying to avoid chemicals.

Nothing new with Leah. She turned 9 months Friday so we have her 9 month checkup today. Still not crawling yet but she's getting close. She is a little germ carrier. In the past 3 weeks Brad and I have both had the stomach flu and I have had a cold the past 7 days. And it's weird that Leah never really gets that sick but they really kick our ass.

Glad to hear that everything is going to be fine!! I know of another baby that had the same issue but his plates were fusing so they had to do surgery, what a relief that they are just touching. It really sucks when something happens to you child, Brad and I know this first hand. It's comforting to know that they are young enough that they won't remember any of this and will go on to be completely healthy!

We got a total of about 6" yesterday and we're supposed to get 1-2 more inches today. Just really cold now..in the negatives with the wind chill. Schools closed again today.

Happy Birthday to my sick hubby..who is home sick today after Leah infected myself, Brad, and 10 other people with the Norwalk virus (aka stomach flu)when we had people over to watch the OSU game Saturday. Gotta love parenthood!

Sorry we didn't send an update out yesterday, it was a pretty bad day. We got the MRI results back and it showed that she had a stroke. It's not a stroke like you think of when adults have them but she has multiple spots that show blood clots in the smallest capillaries in the veins. They don't know when this happened after birth or why it happened but there is permanent damage.
The good news is that this damage in deep in the center part of the brain in the white matter, which is not where any motor function, speech, and memory and stuff is located. She still has all of her motor functions and is crying and eating normally so she is not showing any signs of problems yet. It is going to be a waiting game to see what damage was done as she gets older and her brain starts to develop to see if anything was affected. So because of these blood clots, that is what was causing the seizures.
So we were moved out of the ICU last night to the Neurology floor where they are doing tons more blood work to determine why these clots occurred and to see what needs to be done to prevent them in the future. We are working with a hematologist as well and they are also working to get her anti-seizure medicine regulated.
We are hoping that we will be out of the hospital by Sunday or Monday. Many of the tests that they are doing will take weeks to get back. They are planning on leaving her on the anti-seizure medicine for the next 6 months and will follow up with the neurologists in 3 months for another EEG and at 6 months another MRI. Since she is so young at 6 months they may not even be able to see the damage on an MRI because as her brain grows those damaged areas will get smaller.
That is all for now, we just needed yesterday to process everything that is happening. We will just have to take things one day at a time and hope that there is not any long term damage and that the doctors can figure out why this happened in the first place. The one thing going for her is that she is so young and everyone says that children are very resilient and have ways of re-mapping their brains if there is damage so she may not have any issues at all, we just don't know.

Wanted to give you another update on Leah. We had a really good day yesterday. They were able to remove the breathing machine yesterday and by this morning she was completely off of the oxygen. So we got to hold her last night, which was great! She still has her feeding tube and I'm trying to keep up with pumping milk based on what she is getting hourly but I haven't been taking very good care of myself and the stress has made it hard so they are giving her formula as well.
We received all of the cultures back yesterday and they confirmed that it was not any type of infection that caused the seizures. They did have her hooked up to the EEG machine for a while on Monday and through yesterday morning and they did notice a "hot spot" they call it on the left side of her brain so she is going for an MRI today at 3PM. We're hoping to know more once the MRI is done. We met with the neurologist this morning and they think that they are going to leave her on this anti-seizure medicine for the next 3 months then re-evaluate her then with another EEG then. They will monitor her closely with blood draws to make sure that they have the doseing correct so she will hopefully not be sleepy all the time but as normal as a 12 day old can be!
So once the MRI is done they are going to move her out of the ICU and into a normal room!
We'll keep everyone posted but things are looking up, we just hope that the MRI does not show something serious. We just have to take everything one day at a time.

Just wanted to update you on Leah. She is hanging in there, quite a fighter for being so little. They have had her on an anti-seizure medicine since Sunday that causes her to be very tired but also her heart rate to be low and her breathing to be very shallow. Because her breathing is shallow they have her on a machine, kind of like a sleep apnia machine, to help her breathe. She has gotten used to the anti-seizure medicine so her breathing is getting better so they are hoping to ween her off of that machine today which means I hopefully can hold her! They put in a feeding tube yesterday and are giving her my breast milk through the tube so that will help her get some of her strength back. She had an EEG yesterday and last night but there are no signs of any seizures, which is good that she isn't having anymore but bad that we still don't have a cause. We are supposed to get her cultures back today to see if she has an infection of some sort so we're hoping to have more info later. If she is able to get off of the breathing machine we hope that she will be able to have an MRI in the next day or so.
But they are treating us so well here and the staff has been great. They have hotel like rooms on the same floor as the ICU so we were able to stay there last night so we are close and don't have to leave her but don't have to sleep on the small chair they have in her room which wasn't working very well for me with my c-section incision. They also have me working with a lactation consultant to make sure that I am pumping enough milk to give her so I can still breastfeed after she is out of here.
So that is all we know for now..thanks for all of the well wishes. We will keep everyone posted as well learn more.

Hey guys..just wanted to let all of you know that Leah was admitted to the ICU at Children's Hospital yesterday afternoon. She started having spasms on the right side of her body that they belive to be seizures and are unsure of the cause. She had a CT scan yesterday that came back normal and all of her initial blood work came back normal as well but the final results probably won't be back until tomorrow. They want to do an MRI but are waiting until she is more stabilized before they go ahead with that procedure. We will try to keep everyone posted but please keep Leah and us in your prayers.

Yeah, we're both really excited but nervous. We just want everything to go well and her to be healthy and come out safe! The waiting is the hardest part since we have everything ready and not much to do except wait till Friday. But I'm over being pregnant, this heat is killing me!

So as you know Brad is in the process of renovating our master bathroom. Well last night we had a slight set back. He had just completed all of the pipe work to move the shower and was in the process of laying the floor back down when he slipped and fell through the ceiling into our kitchen. He didn't fall all the way through(and wasn't hurt thankfully) but left a nice large hole in our kitchen above our table. Nothing like eating at the table and being able to look into your bathroom. Brad is in Cincinnati today for work. I have no idea why he wanted June. I would guess because it was sooner rather than later. We don't have any plans for the rest of the summer so we don't have to have it then. I'm assuming August is out because of the OBX trip so we can try for a weekend in July. We could try for the weekend of July 11th & 12th. I know the English's said they had a wedding the 19th so not sure if they would want to travel 2 weekends in a row plus I'm sure no one wants to travel for the 4th.

Nothing like your first day home from vacation and getting into a car accident!! I was out running errands yesterday and some asshole in a Ford F150 decided he didn't want to stop. He managed to clip then side swipe the two cars behind me, in an attempt to swerve around them, then swerved back to avoid oncoming traffic and nailed me from behind going 40 miles per hour. I was then hit into the car in front of me. I'm ok minus a sore wrist but I can't same the same for my car. This asshole didn't even apologize to any of the people in the 4 cars he managed to damage.

Pitt v Kent game starts at 7:10. If everyone wants to watch the game, we are are planning on watching the game at Classics Bar, which is within walking distance of our place and a somewhat towney bary that hopefully won't be too crowded. I am going to try to grab some people to go over early and save tables. For those arriving into town before 7, Biggie said people can meet at his place and he will have dinner ready for them then drive over to Classics which is about 15 min away, he can give you directions. For those arriving after 7, they can meet us at the bar or at our place and I can e-mail you directions. There are a couple of places to eat around there if you need dinner. As far as after the game, that is up in the air. We can either go back to Biggies and just hang out and play pong or find someplace we want to go. For sleeping arrangments, Brad and I have an extra room w/an air mattress and a couch that will sleep 2. Biggie has an extra room, closet, and the finished basement.

Yeah, there is still a Labomba's on campus..that is definately a post crawl stop. I don't think I would be able to drink very much if I ate one of their burritos. As far as food, we don't have anything close to permani brothers so we can do the Pizza thing or Chipotle. Unfortunately there are not many fast food places in the Arena District that are open on the weekends so we may have to hit up a food joint close to Biggie's or our place.

Leanne's friends Bar is called Flannagans which is close to our place. A bunch of us are planning on being up there by 8AM on Friday morning. This place gets tons of business on St Pattys Day so I'm not sure if they would waive the cover, especially since after 8PM the cover goes up to $15. If she could pull some strings to get the cover waived or reduced, then everyone can meet us over there when you get into town. Flannagans

So we decided we are having St. Pattys day in Columbus, right? If so, do people want t-shirts this year? I know everyone is strapped for cash because of weddings, houses, and traveling so I waas wondering if everyone was still interested in getting them.

Aaron, Brad and I rarely talk on the phone during the day..we usually just e-mail if we need something. On a different note I just got an invite to my 10 Year Highschool reunion..God I feel old.

I vote for a saturday crawl in Columbus. If people get into town somewhat early on Friday we can head over to Flanagans (the place Leanne's friend owns) They always have a huge party with tents set up outside for live music and it's not too far from our place.

Brad and I would be in for a ski weekend. When we went last year we found tons of inexpensive condos that were ski in ski out.

Rush Street is the best place to find good food and great bars. Brad and I like Tavern on the Rush. It's a steak house and has a really nice bar on the first floor.

Brad and I don't have a choice for cable. We are stuck in the one pocket of Columbus that has Adelphia and they completely suck. No DVR, no high speed internet, no HDTV. Although they were recently purchased by Time Warner, which the rest of the city has, we will probably move before we see any improvement.

We will leave the cornhole boards at home then and bring the bags. I think our bags need some minor repairs too. My mom taught Brad how to use the sewing machine so he could make the repairs himself. Needless to say the stitching is a little messed up.

It really is a pain in the ass to change your name! 1. Get a new SS card changed at the SS office that is only open 10-4. 2. Once you have your new SS card mailed to you a week or two later, you can get your drivers license changed, change work benefits and get payroll changed. 3. Make a personal stop at the bank to change name and order new card. 4. Call everywhere else and fax over your marriage certificate and order new credit cards. You're lucky you don't have to refinance a house. When we refinanced I had to write out on every page "Alicia Pauling formally know as Alicia Beair"
