Good common sense article from Slate. I'm all for privitizing NASA and cutting subsidies. I don't think I've ever been shy about those positions.

bub about: Here
totally agreed.

the one thing that does bother me is escalation of the fringe. last two presidents it was impeachment. this president it's military coup. where the fuck is this taking us? we shouldn't be reading this stuff. we should be laughing it off the air/web/page. personally, the call for military intervention is much more frightening that the formal steps of impeachment. no comparison.

bub about: Here
unfortunately, those sites/rags are cited as sources in quite a few "legit" stories.

why do you guys even read stuff from drudge, dailykos, etc? or give idiotic editorials any of your time? is "it" the fridge's fault for being crazy? is "it" the media's fault for giving them a forum? or is "it" you're fault for reading and supporting them? just a thought.

bub about: Here
there was just as much petty talk (bush has an IQ of 88, bush is a facist pig, bush is a hillbilly moron, bush can't read, etc). the calls for bush to be impeached, the calls for bush to be brought up on charges of crimes against humanity, calls for bush to be charged with war crimes, etc. bush was vilified more than any president i can remember. did the huffington post call for a military coup, no. and i said the military coup thing is ridiculous. it takes the cries of impeachment a giant step further. i've seen countless bumper stickers calling bush the real terrorist, calling republicans evil, etc. reading the dailykoz at any point during bush's administration would give you the same dose of crazy that reading newsmax/drugde/limbaugh will give you.

maybe it's like when you get a new car and all of a sudden you notice all of that type of car on the road. maybe time allowed you to forget. maybe you just didn't see it, but it was absolutely there.

maybe toungue in cheek. I'm talking about people seriously saying he's the antichrist. They claim it's in the Bible. and no, I don't think most of conservatives really believe that.

Aaron about: Here
I'm pretty sure Olberman called Bush the anti-christ at some point. If I had to handicap it I'd say it would be 1-1 odds.

2000 elelction. I don't remember the 200 election at all.

Thanks for the discertation. I probably align more w/ "normal republicans" than w/ "normal dems" and I get how the media works. However I disagree, quite strongly, that the crazies form the left were this bad for 8 yrs. I remember dem politicians/left media questioning if the invasion of Iraq was a good idea (which is turns out it wasn't). they were labeld traitors and un-american for even thinking of questioning the pres. Compared to screaming liar at Obama during an offical address/ Glenn Beck et al/ award winning journalists calling for a military coup / etc, I think we're treading a bit further down the crazy highway. I remember the "liberal" meadia questioning the 200 election, which deserved to be scrutinized, and being called muckrackers. Now I read everyday in my newspaper, on the interwebs that Obama is a facist/nazi/terrorist/muslim/alien. You don't see a difference? Give me an example of the Huffingotn Post calling for a coup, or of Keith Olberman calling Bush the anti-christ and a secret terrorist.

here's the thing...both sides are so bent on getting/keeping power that they are painting the other side as a bunch of off-the-deep-end crazies to make themselves seem like the only rational people to vote for. the typical republicans are people like my parents, a lot of my former coworkers, a number of my neighbors...who all go to work everyday and have stable, functioning brains who happen to have one idea about how things should be run. the majority of democrats are like my wife, a good number of my friends, a lot of my current coworkers....who go to work everyday and have stable, functioning brains who happen to have a different idea about how things should be run. everyone has the same basic desire when it comes to the US (which is to make the US a better place to live and improve the lives of their fellow americans). that's entirely too boring for journalists to report. that's not sensational enough, it doesn't grab your attention, and it doesn't get viewers/readers. so they show the "bush is an evil liar who is trying to rule the world" and the "obama is trying to turn the US into WWII germany" folks...because it gets much more of a response. you heard the same jive-ass dog shit from the crazies on the left (including threats on the life of gwb) as you hear now from the crazies on the right (with the special exception of the douchenozzle posting that poll on facebook).

and for all of it's benefits, the internet also has the major problem of making it easy for some brain-dead monkey-effers to voice their uneducated/racist/nutbag opinions. and that worthless opinion reaches a much larger audience....and it seems to only fuel more incorrect generalizations and stereotypes of an overwhelmingly normal population. my biggest fear is that we've gotten so far divided that there's no chance of either side coming together. it's a shame.

squeaky wheel gets the grease. they crazies from the left a year ago were just as scary and just as loud. i can say that the military overthrow concept is possibly the most ridiculous i've heard, but the number and amount of crazy is not much different than the last 8 years.

wes about: Here
regardless, the "fringe" crazies are getting louder and scarier by the day. the author served on the staff of 2 presidents. Glenn Beck's popularity grows by the day. i think typical republican/conservative is trending further to crazt-town than you want to believe.

bub about: Here
respected by the same folks that believe everything they see on the drudge report. newsmax is a very far right site. that by no means represents the typical republican/conservative.

wes about: Here
Here's some good crazy for you. Newsmax.com, a respected conservative media group had this column posted on it's website.
